In 2023 Finaly completed a year-long restoration of the Chess and Checkers House in Central Park, building on our earlier success in the restoration of the nearby Dairy Visitors Center the year prior.

Our work on this historic site focused on renovating the 75 year old building for the modern park user – including restroom accessibility modifications, upgraded mechanical systems and lighting that integrates with the surrounding landscape.

One of our biggest challenges was the exterior restoration of the main building – performing the needed work while respecting and maintaining it’s landmark status. Historic preservationists were brought in to restore the original brick façade, a historically accurate slate roof was sourced from Vermont, and the lead coated copper cupola was completely rebuilt.

Each facade of the octagon shaped building received new custom doors or windows – modern, functional components that respect the original design integrity.
